چکیده

Spent fluorescent lamps (SFL) are classified as hazardous materials in the European Waste Catalogue, which includes residues from various hi-tech devices. The most common end-of-life treatment of SFL consists recovery rare earth elements phosphor powders, with associated problems management glass residues, usually landfilled. This study involves manufacturing porous ceramics both coarse glass-rich fraction and phosphor-enriched spent lamps. These materials, realizing immobilization Rare Earth Elements (REEs) within a matrix, suggested for application buildings thermal acoustic insulators. proposed process is characterized by: (i) alkaline activation (2.5 M or 1 NaOH aqueous solution); (ii) pre-curing at 75 °C; (iii) addition surfactant (Triton X-100) foaming high-speed stirring; (iv) curing 45 (v) viscous flow sintering 700 °C. All final present limited metal leaching and, particular, activated 2.5 solution leads to comparable commercial foams terms mechanical properties.

Removal of mercury bonded in residual glass from spent fluorescent lamps.

The current technologies available for recycling fluorescent lamps do not completely remove the phosphor powder attached to the surface of the glass. Consequently, the glass contains the mercury diffused through the glass matrix and the mercury deposited in the phosphor powder that has not been removed during treatment at the recycling plant. A low-cost process, with just one stage, which can b...

Light Spectrum of Compact Fluorescent Lamps in Iranian Market and Possibility of Hydroxyl Radical Production

Background and purpose: Despite growing use of energy-saving lamps or compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), there are concerns about ultraviolet radiation in their output. In this study, the output of CFLs available in Iranian market in the range of infrared, visible, and ultraviolet were measured and the possibility of hydroxyl radical production by their radiation was evaluated. Materials and me...

Determination of mercury distribution inside spent compact fluorescent lamps by atomic absorption spectrometry.

In this study, spent compact fluorescent lamps were characterized to determine the distribution of mercury. The procedure used in this research allowed mercury to be extracted in the vapor phase, from the phosphor powder, and the glass matrix. Mercury concentration in the three phases was determined by the method known as cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry. Median values obtained in the ...

Synthesis of nano-porous molecular sieve from some natural materials

Zeolites due to their structures can be used as molecular sieves for purification of materials and solutions. Zeolites with PHI and SOD structure are so common and applicable for this purpose. Hydroxy sodalite and phillipsite are the more abundant members of zeolites which display good selectivity for very small molecules and some ions such as Sr, Pb, Zn, Cu and Rb. There is not any pure natura...
